County to consider sharing engineer with Audubon County

The Cass County Board of Supervisors are considering a request from Audubon County to share the services of Cass County Engineer Charles Marker, while that county searches for a new engineer.
Audubon County Supervisor Vernie Venteicher met with the board Tuesday to make the request, noting that the county would need Marker for routine matters, including a bridge bid letting in January. He added that the county was in the process of hiring a new engineer and hoped to have that completed in 60 days or so.
Earlier this month, Audubon County ended a nine-year agreement to share an engineer with Shelby County after deciding the county needed a full-time engineer.
Cass County Supervisors were supportive of the idea, providing that Marker felt he could work it into his schedule. Marker is already shared with Cass and Adair counties. Marker was not at Tuesday’s meeting.
A number of issues would have to be worked out, including pay, and how much time Marker could devote to Audubon county business. Venteicher said that the hours would be “minimal,” and involve mostly routine items such as signing claims and other documents but also working the county’s January bridge bid letting. He added that whatever work was required could probably be brought to Atlantic.
The Board made no decision, deciding to discuss the issue with Maker first.
