AHS students recognized for All-State Festival

Seven Atlantic High School students have been selected for the 2008 All State Music Festival. The selection is the highest individual honor available to high school musicians n Iowa.
According to a press release from the school, Maria Swope and Sarah Wright were selected for the band portion of Iowa All-State. Maria is the daughter of Scott and Lisa Birkel and is a three year All-Stater for Clarinet. Sarah is the daughter of Dave and Laura Wright is a first year All-Stater for Baritone Sax.
Five students were selected for All-State Choir, including: Ally Garrett (Soprano), daughter of Kevin and Carol Garret, Second Year; Taylor Williams (Soprano), daughter of Tom and Dianna Williams, First Year; Joey Bateman (Baritone), son of Joe Bateman and Roger and Debbie Crawford, First Year; Kristen Schuler (Alto), daughter of Rod and Michelle Schuler, First Year; and Sam Johnson (Bass), son of Mark and Pam Johnson, First Year.
Special recognition also goes to Curtis Ullerich (Band), Rich Nichols (Chorus), and Jessica Pritchett (Chorus) for being selected for a second round audition. Sydney Hayes (Flute) was named an alternated for the All-State Band.
According to the press release, students auditioned for the All-State Festival on Oct. 25 and about 17 percent of those who audition are selected for the festival. Participants will rehearse in Ames on Nov. 21 and 22 and the Festival concert will be held for the public on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hilton Coliseum on Iowa State’s Campus in Ames.
Tickets for the event are $15 each and all seats are reserved. Tickets are on sale at the Iowa State Athletic Ticket Office located at the west side of the Jacobson Athletic Building in Ames. The office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Mail or fax orders will be accepted any time by using the form located on the IHMSA website at www.ihsma.org/documents/AS_tickets.pdf. If the order is received fewer than 10 days before the performance, tickets will not be mailed but will be held at the Jacobson Athletic Building until the day of the performance.
Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster at www.ticketmaster.com or at any outlet.
