Bird Feeder Workshop set for Nov. 8
The Cass County Conservation Board is holding a Bird Feeder Workshop! The workshop will be held at the Atlantic Senior Center in Atlantic on Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. The workshop is free, and all ages welcome! Learn all about feeding the birds also make and take a bird feeder! Pre-register by Nov. 6 by calling 712-243-6665 or email lschwendinger@casscoia.us.
Iowa Farmers Union Session
in Atlantic Nov. 11
The Iowa Farmers Union will be hosting an agricultural policy listening session in the Atlantic Public Library on Tuesday, November 11. Join us beginning at 7 pm to share your vision for Iowa agricultural policy, including food and energy. Ideas gathered will be shared with lawmakers as well as inform Iowa Farmers Union activities throughout the coming year.
Poinsettia Fund-raiser underway
Jack and Jill Preschool’s Poinsettia sales are underway. This is the ninth year for this traditional fund-raiser. The plants are provided by Canoyer Greenhouse out of Griswold. They come in a variety of colors, red, pink, white and marble (white/cream) and can be purchased for $10.50. Please contact your favorite Jack and Jill preschooler or the Nishna Valley YMCA to reserve yours.

Town hall meeting on outpatient clinic set for Nov. 8
Representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System (VA NWIHCS) will host a town hall meeting to announce the early 2009 opening of the new Shenandoah community based outpatient clinic.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Gladys Wirsig-Jones Auditorium, located at the Shenandoah High School in Shenandoah. There will be ample parking and assistance with parking and for those with wheelchairs. A shuttle service will also be available transporting drivers from the parking area to the auditorium.
Caregivers are welcome to attend. Bring your DD214 if you haven’t sign up for the VA care yet.
VA representatives will discuss the services to be offered at the new clinic and how veterans can transfer their care from their current VA health care facility.
The VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System serves more than 172,500 veterans in Nebraska, western Iowa and portions of Kansas and Missouri. Omaha’s medical center is an inpatient facility and also a large outpatient clinic for primary and specialty care. The nursing home care unit is in Grand Island. There are community-based outpatient clinic in Lincoln, Grand Island, North Platte, Holdrege and Norfolk. Future plans are for CBOCs to be opened in Bellevue, O’Neill and Shenandoah.
The Gladys Wirsig-Jones Auditorium is located at the Shenandoah High School on the southeast corner of the city. There will be signs posted directing those to the meeting.
Load your car up with veterans who are unable to drive and bring them with you to the meeting.
