Ihnen earns Eagle Rank
Cody Ihnen, son of Bill and Melissa Ihnen, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on Sept. 7, the highest rank a Boy Scout can achieve. Only 2 percent of all Scouts receive this award. Cody has one brother, Casey, and is a confirmed member of First Lutheran Church, Wiota. He is also the grandson of Brenda Schroder, and the great-grandson of Alice Mortensen.
Cody began Scouting in 1999 when he joined Pack 53 as a Tiger Cub. In Cub Scouts he advanced through the ranks of Tiger, Bobcat, Wolf, Bear and Webelo. During his Webelo years he earned all 20 activity pins and received the highest rank a Cub Scout can earn - the Arrow of Light. He also earned the World Conservation Award, his religious knot, attended Scout Jubilee twice at Mahoney State Park in Nebraska, and enjoyed many overnight camps at Little Sioux Scout Ranch.
He crossed over and joined Troop 54 on Feb. 8, 2004. He has attended summer camp each year, making trips to Medicine Mountain Scout Camp in the Black Hills of South Dakota, Camp Geiger in St. Joseph, Mo., and three times traveling to Camp Cedars in Fremont, Nebraska. He also attended another Scout Jubilee at Mahoney State Park where he carried the Troop flag during the opening ceremony. One of the most memorable experiences at summer camp was when the Troop participated in the flag retirement ceremony at Mt. Rushmore. There were also many more trips to Little Sioux. In the spring of 2006 Cody was elected into the Order of the Arrow and has now advanced to be a Brotherhood member.
Cody is currently the Troop's Senior Patrol Leader, and held the position of Troop Quartermaster for two years and Patrol Quartermaster for one year, and is starting his fourth year as Den Chief for Cub Scout Den #7.
He completed his Eagle project in the campground of the Cass County Fairgrounds with the help of several 4-H clubs, Scouts and family, building 19 new picnic tables, painting the shelter and shed, replacing a small sign, adding more fire pits and constructing and digging in 4' x 4' rock-filled basins under each hydrant.
Cody attends Atlantic High School where he's beginning his sophomore year. He is active in marching band, concert band, jazz band, choir, show choir, student council and tennis. His future plans are to attend the Air Force Academy in Colorado to become a pilot.
