CASS COUNTY - Officials with S.C.O.R.E. or Spinal Cord Organization for Research and Enrichment are sponsoring a four- person best ball golf tournament, which will be held at the Nishna Hills Golf Course on Saturday, Aug. 23, according to organizers. The group, which raises money for research, raises awareness and pursues enrichment for individuals with disabilities, has raised nearly $100,000 with a variety of fund-raisers during the past several years.

The tournament will have an 8:30 a.m. shot gun start, and the cost is $120 per team. There are limited golf carts available, and there will also be prizes given away during the tournament. Members of the Cass County Beef Producers will be out grilling during the event, and will serve food for a free will donation. Those interested in participating in the tournament can call Theresa Hensley at 712-243-9750 or Jim and Peg Hensley at 712-779-3484.

“Over the past five years, S.C.O.R.E. has hosted many walk/rides with features such as auctions, raffles, dances, wheelchair basketball and motorcycle poker runs,” officials wrote in information about the tournament. “Along with the sales of t-shirts, bandannas, wrist bands, koozies and many donations, S.C.O.R.E. has raised nearly $100,000. S.C.O.R.E. has given some of that money to spinal cord research and has also given back to our surrounding communities. S.C.O.R.E. has started a monthly support group for those with spinal cord injuries and their families and friends. S.C.O.R.E. has also implemented an application program to help those in need of assistance. We have helped individuals by providing financial assistance in remodeling a bathroom for accessibility, a lift system for a pickup and a ramp system for a van.
