MARNE - The drawing for the raffle for the 2008 Bonneville T100/900cc model motorcycle, donated by officials at Baxter Cycle to the Progressive Rural Iowa Development Enterprise (P.R.I.D.E.) to use as a raffle item benefiting the Cass County Endowment Fund, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 17 as part of the 27th Annual Motorcycle Rally at Baxter Cycle in Marne. The rally will be held from the evening of Friday, Aug. 15 through Sunday, Aug. 17.

According to information from individuals organizing the drawing, the motorcycle has a red and silver color scheme, and is in a design that evokes the vintage look of Triumphs made in the 1960s and 70s. The retail value of the motorcycle is $8,799. Raffle tickets sell for $20 each, or 6 for $100, with a limit of 750 tickets being sold. Checks should be made out to “P.R.I.D.E. Raffle.”

Raffle tickets will be available at the following outlets: Baxter Cycle in Marne, Road House Bar and Grill in Marne, Maid-Rite Sandwich Shoppe in Atlantic, Daniels Fine Jewelry in Atlantic, Rex Pharmacy in Atlantic, Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, Rolling Hills Bank in Atlantic, Griswold, Anita and Walnut, and Dusty’s Place in Griswold.

Baxter Cycle has been awarded the Triumph Platinum Premier Group designation by Triumph America. This signifies the highest level of achievement for a dealer in showing commitment to excellent service and customer satisfaction. As a 2008 Platinum level dealer, Baxter Cycle received a free 2008 Triumph Bonneville T100 from Triumph America. The bike was given with no strings attached for the local dealer to do with as he pleased. As a life-long resident of Cass County, Randy Baxter has chosen to take this opportunity to give something back.

“I knew I wanted the raffle to benefit Cass County,” said Baxter, “but I really didn’t know how to go about choosing how to distribute the money. It just so happened that about the same time my wife, Kenner, and I were discussing it, I saw an article listing recipients of grant money from the Cass County Endowment Fund. It struck me as an organization whose goals matched my idea for the raffle.”

The Cass County Endowment Fund will receive the lion’s share (90 percent) of the raffle proceeds. CCEF is a community foundation for Cass County. It was established in 1998 and is affiliated with the Omaha Community Foundation. It is managed by a local advisory board that is active in our local communities. The goal of this group is to improve the quality of life in Cass County by supporting needs that are not being met in the areas of civic, cultural, health, education and social service. For more information about the Cass County Endowment Fund, visit them on the web at www.iowacommunityfoundations.org.

P.R.I.D.E., a 501(c)(3) non-profit economic development and educational organization, is dedicated to the entrepreneurial spirit and applying it to a rural setting. As a non-profit group, P.R.I.D.E. is the agency conducting the raffle, and holds the license from the State of Iowa to do so. P.R.I.D.E. will receive 10 percent of the proceeds from the raffle.

Riders with all makes of motorcycles are invited to the rally, which starts with a supper ride on Friday, Aug. 15. All interested parties should meet at the Baxter Cycle shop, located at 411 Fourth Street in Marne, at 6:30 p.m. Later that evening, the KSOM Radio Bud Bash and a volleyball game will take place at the Road House Bar and Grill.

Saturday, Aug. 16 will start with a Scout Pancake Breakfast at the Marne Community Center, although there will be free coffee and donuts available at the shop and warehouse, where an open house will be held during the day. There will also be a Triumph Truck on site, offering demo rides during the day. A fun ride will start at 1 p.m., and prizes will be awarded to winners.

The Scout Pancake Breakfast at the Community Center, the open house along with free coffee and donuts, and the Triumph Truck demo rides will continue on Sunday, Aug. 17. There will also be a free hot dog lunch at the Marne Park at noon, which will be provided by members of the Marne Community Club. Field events, bike judging, trophy presentations, and the raffle drawing will follow the lunch.
