County tables drug card discussion

ATLANTIC – The Cass County Board of Supervisors have tabled a decision on a prescription drug discount card until board member Charles Rieken can report back with more information.

Last month, representatives from two companies offering the cards met with the board to explain the program, which provides residents around 20 percent on certain name-brand and generic drugs. There is no charge to the county or the residents for the service.

Under both proposals the cards would be distributed to local pharmacies and where they would be available to the public.

Board member Dave Dunfee questioned what role the county played in the process and why either company couldn’t contact residents on their own.

The board made no decision deciding to wait until Rieken returned from a meeting with other county officials where he would ask if they were involved with either organization and if they were having any problems.

The Cass County Board of Supervisors made two appointments Wednesday. The board unanimously appointed Bob Muldoon to the County Conservation Board. Muldoon will take over the seat formerly held by Denise O’Brien.

The Board also appointed Anita resident Ione Brown as the Grant Township clerk.

" While I am glad that Cass County is considering a drug discount card program. I will happily stay with my lower-cost drugs from my licensed foreign pharmacy. I save 55 percent on my Lipitor, and 48 percent on my Diovan. Local drug costs are way too pricey for me, so several years ago, I started buying my drugs from International Drug Mart, a licensed online pharmacy overseas. Now, I never think twice about it. The drugs are just as high quality as when I used to buy them from Walgreens and WalMart. Even my doctor agrees with my decision to buy from overseas.. "
