Hired Hands Scholarship available
There is still time for eligible students to apply for the annual Hired Hands Grant. The Hired Hands Committee, Cumberland, is accepting applications through July for its $1,000 scholarship. Applicants must be graduates of a Cass County high school and have completed at least 24 hours of academic work, or the equivalent in a trade or professional school. Applications must be postmarked no later than July 31. The scholarship is for continuing study, and at the time of receiving the scholarship the student must show a certificate of school registration. The winning applicant will be announced in mid August.
The Scholarship was made from funds generated through the sales of two books of interviews with farm laborers. The books received a Citation of Merit from the Iowa Humanities Board.
Application forms are available at most Cass County libraries and high schools.
