Old Soldiers Reunion set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday

GRISWOLD - The 126th Old Soldiers Reunion will be held in Griswold on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and include a variety of activities.
Friday will start with a 30-mile tractor ride. To participate, an individual must be at least 14-years-old, the tractor the person is driving must be able to maintain at least 10 mph and have a slow moving vehicle sign, and no riders will be allow, unless a seat is added to the tractor. (However, there will be a wagon for others to ride on during the ride. Call 712-778-2213 for more information.)
There is no entry fee to participate in the ride.
Free coffee and donuts will be served prior to the ride at 7 a.m. at Bierbaum A.C. Museum, located on Cass Street, three blocks south of Griswold’s Main Street, and the ride will officially start at 8 a.m. Drivers will arrive in Lyman at The Deere Shop at 9 a.m., and then arrive at Schuler Manufacturing Co. at 10:30 a.m. where drivers will receive a free lunch along with a tour. Drivers will arrive at the Hitchcock House in Lewis at 2 p.m. and then arrive at the Rush Ford Collection at 4 p.m.
The Cass County Museum will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Friday, and the 4 KIDZ, INC. group will have a food stand open in the city park at 5 p.m. The group will also offer a “Jumping Castle” game at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m., the Reunion Parade, which will travel from high school to the city park, will start, and a variety of park rides, including Jerry Jones’ Little Train, will also start at 6 p.m.
The Annual Reunion Queen Contest will start at 7 p.m. on Friday with the queen being crowned at 8:30 p.m. The Optimist Sno-Cone booth and the Bingo stand will open at 7 p.m., and Faith Lutheran Church Ice Cream Social will start at 7 p.m. Free entertainment will continue in the park after the queen contest at approximately 9 p.m., and a street dance will also start at 9 p.m. at 405 Main Street. The dance, sponsored by officials from Dusty’s and Wyman’s Ford, will feature music by Pranxter.
Saturday’s events will start with “The Pancake Man” serving at the fire station from 7 to 11 a.m. The Friends of the Library Book Sale will also be held at the fire station from 7 to 10 a.m. Sidewalk Sales will also start at 8 a.m.
The Antique Tractor and Implement Show will also be held on Saturday on Cass Street. Individual can enter their tractors from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. There will also be displays of pedal tractors, lawn and garden tractor and toys on display. There’s no entry fee to participate, and no judging will take place. Drawings will be held throughout the morning for participants, and lunch will be provided by Dusty’s. Individuals are also encouraged to bring their lawn chairs.
The American Legion Auxiliary Membership Coffee will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the American Legion Building, and the Cass County Museum will open at 10 a.m. Kids Water Fights will also start at 10 a.m. and be held near the city park. The group 4 KIDS, INC. will again have their “Jumping Castle” game in the park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A horseshoe contest will be held at Dusty’s at 10:30 a.m., and registration for the Adult Water Fights will start 11 a.m., with the competition starting at noon. Hot dogs, chips and beverages will be available for purchase during the water fights from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the proceeds going to the Brad Amos family. Amos was one of four injured in the explosion that occurred at Pelgrow recently. There will also be “Battling 4 Brad” Bracelets and Third Degree t-shirts for sale. Also At noon, men, women and children from “12 to 80” can participate in the pedal pull at the show, located on Cass Street, near the Antique Tractor and Implement Show.
The Optimist Club Food Stand will open at 5:30 p.m. in the park, and the Kids’ Parade will also start at 5:30 p.m. with line up at the fire station. The Old Soldiers Reunion “Grand Parade,” which will travel from the high school down Griswold’s Main Street. A dedication at Veterans Memorial Park will follow the parade at approximately 7 p.m. The Little Kids Pedal Tractor Pull will also start at 7 p.m. in the city park, and Youth Fire Truck Rides and Bingo will also start at city park at 7 p.m. The Faith Lutheran Church Ice Cream Social will also start at 7 p.m. in the city park. A drawing for the Optimist Club Quilt will take place at 8 p.m. in the city park, and entertainment will also be held at 8 p.m. in the park by the Griswold “Redneck Weddings.”
On Sunday, officials at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church will serve brunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free will donation. The Cass County Museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, and the Duck Race at the River Bridge will be held at 2 p.m. The bridge is located one mile west of Griswold, and tickets for the race will be on sale on Friday and Saturday at the American Legion Booth.
