ATLANTIC— The at times snake bitten Trojanns fell to 2-5 in the Hawkeye 10 after splitting Thursday night’s home double header with Red Oak, grasping victory in the opener 3-1 before transposing that score in the nightcap, falling 3-1 to the Tigers in game two.
Atlantic softball coach Lori Lammers struggled to assess the situation after game two’s loss, saying she was more than pleased with the way her team swung the bat but hits just couldn’t find the gaps.
“We hit the ball well and set the table, we just couldn’t score when we needed to,” she said. “We did a great job of putting the ball in play, getting runners on and getting them into scoring position but couldn’t string the hits together when we needed to.”
The Trojanns defense show fundamentally sound again while Alex Zimprich held Red Oak to one run in the opener while striking out seven.
In game two, the Tigers brought in Tiffany McArdle to pitch and she held the Trojanns scoreless into the fourth while Red Oak jumped out with two early runs and never trailed.
“We’re just not finding the holes, we’re hitting it right at the fielders right now,” Lammers said. “What can you do? We’re just going to have to keep plugging away…sooner or later it will happen if we keep at it.”

The loss drops Atlantic to 7-8 on the season with a very competitive Fort Dodge Tournament looming this weekend.
“Nobody wants to be at .500 but we have to accept it right now and know that we’re a pretty darn good .500 team,” Lammers said. “Now we just need to get some breaks and score the runs when we have the chances.”
