Atlantic receives Lighten Up Iowa grant
AMES - Atlantic was one of 36 Iowa communities who were recipients of $500 Healthy Lifestyle Community Grants, awarded by the Iowa Sports Foundation. These grants were awarded to communities who show an interest of initiating "Lighten Up Iowa" within their community. Atlantic will use the $500 for promotion of the 100-day challenge.
"Lighten Up Iowa" is a team-based program designed to help Iowans make positive lifestyle changes. In 2007 nearly 23,859 participants logged 48,411,660 minutes of activity and lost 85,231 pounds of weight.
Teams of two to 10 people sign up for one or both divisions: weight loss due to an appropriate diet and/or accumulated activity minutes.
With the $15 paid entry fee participants receive a training T-shirt, weekly nutrition and physical activity tips, chances to win monthly incentive prizes, free one-year magazine subscription upon logging in to your personal dashboard, access to recipes, health, nutrition and exercise resources on www.lightenupiowa.org, and free entry into the Winter and Summer Iowa Games Fitness Walk.

Iowa Sports Foundation (ISF) is a nonprofit sports management organization that helps develop sports tourism in Iowa and promotes positive lifestyle and physical fitness through amateur athletic events and health education programs. ISF owns the Summer Iowa Games, Winter Iowa Games, Lighten Up Iowa, Go The Distance, Go The Distance Day, Hoopin' at the Dome, Net Fest, and the Iowa Games Golf Classic.
