Apples and Antiques Day in Griswold on Saturday

GRISWOLD - Griswold will host its annual Apples and Antiques Day on Saturday, Oct. 6.
The day starts out with a pancake feed at the Fire Station from 7-10 a.m. Sponsored by Lodge #412, proceeds will go towards scholarships for local graduates.
For those who want to do some shopping, citywide garage sales will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, and organizers say visitors to Griswold will find “a-peeling” bargains at businesses throughout the day.
The Cass County Historical Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1-4 p.m.
The area tractor museums will also be open on Saturday.
The Deere Shop, in Lyman, is run by Randall and Steve Baier, and more information is available through Randall at 778-4604 or Steve at 778-4452.
The Rush Antique Farm Display at 500 Main Street in Griswold is run by Dale and Norma Rush, and more information is available at 778-2213.
The Rush Ford Collection is located at 66859 550th Street, in Griswold and is run by Howard and Doris Rush. More information can be obtained at 778-4152.
The Allis Chalmers Museum, 706 Cass Street in Griswold, is run by Royal and John Bierbaum.
Eshelman’s Minneapolis Moline in Elliott is run by Dutch Eshelman, with more information at 767-2597.
Like apples? An Apple Pie and or Apple Dessert contest will be held from 9-10 a.m. at the Legion Building.
It will be open to two age categories: ages 12 and younger and adults. Check in is at 9 a.m. and judging begins at 9:30 a.m.
A Treasures or Trash Roadshow will be held at the American Legion Building from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Antique dealer Dave Bradley of Walnut, will be on hand to look at those “treasures” individuals bring in. He will evaluate up to two items per person for a $2 per item fee.
And if all the walking around makes visitors hungry, the Griswold United Methodist Church will offer lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsored by the Southwest Iowa Touring Honor Choir, the lunch will offer soup and sandwiches, and desserts from the Apple Pie and Desserts contests will be served. The meal is available for a free will donation, with proceeds going towards the SWI Touring Honor Choir’s trip to New York.
