ATLANTIC - There is a new doctor at Schramm Chiropractic.

While the name - and management - at Schramm Chiropractic remains the same, Dr. Noel C. Davis, Jr. is the new chiropractor there.

He has been in Atlantic about three months, and moved here from central Illinois, but grew up in New Jersey, “I’ve just been bouncing around the Midwest,” he said. He said he started in Atlantic around June 4, but had to have eye surgery shortly after getting here. Three months later he said he is settling in to Atlantic and his new practice.

He explained he got involved in chiropractic work after being diagnosed with progressive scoliosis (curvature of the spine) as a child. While he had to wear a brace for several years, he was eventually taken to a chiropractor, which not only gave him relief for his back, but also “took care of the chronic sinus headaches that I had grown up with.”

After that an incident with an overworked back inspired him to become a chiropractor, he said, noting he graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, and has been practicing for 21 years.

He says all that experience has helped him, and that he has adjusted patients as young as one hour old, and as old as 98 years old.

He said while most people don’t think of adjusting children, “little kids do things to themselves all the time,” and could “build up over time, and in your late 20’s and 30’s when you start having back pain, and wonder why,” you might end up needing some adjustments, he said.

Davis said he also has had lots of success using chiropractic adjustments on children with chronic ear infections and even upper respiratory issues or colic.

Davis married his college sweetheart, Debbie in 1982 and they have three children a 24-year-old daughter, a 21-year-old son and a 14-year-old son. Debbie works as his office assistance.

And when he’s not working, Davis says his hobbies are following politics, writing and sports. “I’m a big sports fan,” he said, noting he watched eight football games this past weekend.

He and his family moved to Atlantic from Buckley, Ill., and said he’s settling in well, “Atlantic’s very nice,” he said, noting it reminded him of Pennsylvania, where he had once lived along the Delaware River.

His office is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

He offers basic chiropractic services along with some physical therapy, and said he practiced a variety of different methods. He said he didn’t specialize in any one style, “I just tried to learn as many as I could,” noting there were a lot of different ways to make adjustments.

“There are lots of different styles (he can offer), ranging from very gentle to relatively physical,” he said, all depending on the person being adjusted.
