Promoting tourism in Cass County
By Laura Bacon, NT Staff Writer
The new Cass County representative to the Western Iowa Tourism Council, Kenner Baxter of Marne, showed the Cass County Supervisors a new brochure and talked about getting together with the supervisors to put together ideas for a plan of action to promote Cass County.
Baxter said that since she was newly appointed to her position with Cass County Tourism, she wanted the supervisors to take some time to discuss their general expectations of her, and hoped to get together with them to come up with a plan to promote Cass County.
“I’m excited to have the opportunity to help generate ideas to increase interest in tourism for our area,” she said in a handout to the supervisors.
Baxter brought copies of the new full color brochure that offers readers information on the communities in the county, talks about annual events and lists websites for further information. The brochure includes a large number of color photographs and also lists lodging and camping facilities in the county, libraries with Internet access and golf courses.
She said 5,000 copies of the brochure had been printed and that it would be distributed to welcome centers across the state, and areas around Atlantic as well.
She also talked about attending the Western Iowa Tourism meeting in Atlantic on July 25, and said she’d been encouraged to attend the 2007 Iowa Tourism Conference in Dubuque in October.
Baxter told the supervisors she is also a member of the Southwest Iowa Coalition Marketing Group (SICMG), which is utilizing a marketing research group to come up with a “branding” identification for southwest Iowa.
“I think my involvement with the SICMG will enhance my efforts to promote tourism,” she said.
