The city of Atlantic has a new tool to use to give out information: a city of Atlantic website.

The website, put together by Deb Wheatley-Field, City Clerk, uses a template by GovOffice.com, and gives residents and others a “one stop shop” for information about city government.

The website is located at www.cityofatlantic.com, or through a link off the Atlantic chamber’s website. It includes sections on city management, city council, boards and commissions, agendas and minutes, public notices, job opportunities and even the city code, Wheatley said.

For city departments like the police department or fire department, that already have their own website, Wheatley said that links would be provided.

She said she’d been working on the website for “a couple months,” on and off, and wanted to get the basics completed and up on-line, then will work on adding other features in the future, like a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section.

She said many cities have dedicated Information Technology or IT people, who could design web pages, but for smaller communities, the templates from GovOffice were very helpful.

“It can be customized, we can change it, change pictures,” she said, and add items as needed through an easy to use framework.

And for those who have questions during office hours, after hours or over the weekend, the website might have the answer.

Wheatley said the biggest question people have been calling the office about was “What are the hours of the yard waste site?”

Since that’s a popular question, Wheatley said those hours are listed right on the website’s home page. But for things like questions about city code, residents will be able to go on line at any time, and look up the actual code, even when city hall is closed, and residents will be able to view agendas and minutes for city boards, commissions and even the city council.
