Audubon Lions plan 17th annual Farm Toy Show

The Audubon Lions Club will hold their 17th annual Farm Toy Show on Saturday, Feb. 24.

The show will offer a wide variety of farm related toys for all ages, from kids to collectors, according to LaVerne Deist, one of the planners.

Last year’s show featured 83 different tables of toys, with toy dealers and collectors bringing their new, used and antique toys.

The show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Agri-Hall in Audubon on Saturday, Feb. 24. Admission is $2 per adult, with kids 10 and under getting in free, Deist said.

Turnout has been good in the past, Deist said, “It’s a good show, people come from all over,” he said.

Toys on display come in a wide variety, Deist said, including cars, trucks, trains, tractors and other farm equipment, some new and some old.

“There’s one person who always brings parts for repairing old toys,” Deist said, like tires for old toy tractors,

“So if you have an old toy tractor that needs to be refurbished,” Deist said, this might be the place to find that part.

This is the 17th year of the toy show, and it has been a good fund-raiser for the Audubon Lions Club. The money raised by the show is used to support projects across the county, Deist said.

So far about 60 tables have been reserved, but Deist said last minute requests for tables will come in. Tables are $12.50 each, and those interested should call Deist at 712-563-2026 as soon as possible.

Deist said that door prizes would be awarded during the day.

Those coming to the show can register at the door, and “about every half hour or so we have a drawing,” Deist said. He noted that the Lions went around to area businesses to collect a variety of items for the door prizes to give away during the show.

And if looking at all the toys makes visitors hungry, the Lions have that covered as well, Deist said.

“The Lions have a popcorn machine and will be making popcorn to sell all day,” he said.

Lunch is also offered, including maid rites, hot dogs, and ham and cheese sandwiches, along with chips and homemade desserts.
